No matter how good you think you can drive if you go Off Roading you will get damage to parts of your truck.
Take a look at this picture after my truck sliding back on a big rock that bent up one of the rear trailing arms it then wound up my rear prop shaft and ripped it off leaving the back axle twisted to one side which made recovery of the truck hard work as it was crabbing to one side when we where trying to get it on the trailer.
Here is another very common part that breaks a lot when Off Roading This CV in the picture had been subjected to sand and water because the seal had been damaged the result was the CV bearing had collapsed.
This is a rear Diff out of a 200 tdi can you see what is missing ?
Well if you did not spot it the middle gears are smashed out of it. This is because the driver did not no when his truck would not go up or through something and to stop ? well it did stop and so did his day's fun ?
Wheel Bearings are one of the most common parts to fail on all 4x4 off road trucks no matter what make they are. This is the front outer wheel bearing on a Landrover 90.
This the bearing on the same hub but the back one as you can see both bearing are dry and damaged water has got in and the grease has got out.
As you can see off roading conditions can damages parts that you cannot see so it is a good idea to check these parts regular ?
Even things like tyres can be a problem like the one on this Pajero ? The tyre came off the rim some break downs can be fixed and you can carry on with your day but others mean game over time to go home and fix it.
And the is always some one at the off sites that have a bad day that mite need a bit of your help ?
Well filling your truck full of water and sand that get in to everything can lead to lots of break down Like CV's, Wheel Bearings, Diffs, UJ and lots of other parts. Wet Electronic's are a major problem and can be very expensive.
